GUIDE'S ASSISTANT AND SUPPORT STAFFA unique opportunity helping our Nature Guide on overnight guided walks especially the Rakiura Great Walk and helping to fill in gaps working on a variety of small jobs. This role will appeal to anyone who enjoys nature, life away from the busy tourist centres, hiking and cooking and is a willing worker.We are a local, independent tourist business, operating since 2000. Could you be the right person to join a growing team as our Guide's Assistant / Support Staff person. Are you interested in experiencing new places, seeing wildlife, meeting New Zealand and overseas clients.You will need to be a quick learner, with attention to detail, energetic, enthusiastic, friendly and outgoing. A commitment for the full season is important to us.We require a special person who is caring, hardworking, and a team player.The successful person will work in the outdoors and at our office and as required in and around the Stewart Island village area.Our ideal candidate is / has:Helpful, flexible with a positive can-do attitude and undertakes tasks wellHonest and trustworthyGood written and spoken EnglishPhysically fit with some hiking experienceAble to cook well and efficientlyEasy to work withGood personal presentation (uniform provided)Duties include:Assisting our Nature Guide:Prepare for overnight tripsCarry gear to and from boat and transfer gear to and from hutsHelp prepare, cook and serve meals and snacksCleaning / packing / storing gear and equipment Walk with clients if required (including carrying some gear)Helping entertain clients.Assisting our SkipperLoading and unloading gearCleaning.General support workDistributing brochures, informing visitors of our tours and servicesCleaning vehicles / office area / hire gearAny other reasonable tasks.If you have additional skills which could be useful to us let us know.Employment Period and Hours of WorkOctober to March / April 2020.
