About the role
The charge nurse manager for our mental health inpatient unit is a member of the senior leadership team for mental health and addictions at Nelson Marlborough Health (NMH). The Wahi Oranga unit at Nelson Hospital is for adolescents and adults who require inpatient care. The unit offers both acute care and rehabilitation. In this position you will be responsible for managing clinical risk and implementing systems and processes to improve patient outcomes. You will facilitate timely patient access to services within Nelson Marlborough Health and regionally across the continuum of care.
About you
If you are a skilled and committed nurse leader with broad knowledge and skills and a passion for mental health then this could be the position for you. As well as significant clinical leadership in mental health you will have NZNC registration and a current practising certificate. You will have a demonstrated history of facilitating change within a fast-paced environment and your people skills will enable you to manage a diverse range of clinicians, with differing needs. You will be committed to furthering the service through exploration of opportunities and fostering innovation. You will also be committed to achieving equity and upholding the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi including:
Working to develop an integrated Maori model of care with Te Waka Hauora (TWH) Maori health unit.
Helping to develop rehabilitation pathways for Maori in conjunction with TWH.
Working to develop working relationships with local Maori providers.
Ensuring Wahi Oranga keep key performance indicators are reported by ethnicity and specifically work to reduce Maori seclusion rates.
Encouraging staff to undertake cultural safety training.
