General Manager, Surgical And Support Services (1.0Fte)

This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, timely and financially prudent surgical, pathology and ambulatory services to the Northland population.

Northland DHB has nearly 2,800 staff and provides over 300 hospital beds and a broad range of health services across Northland. We also fund most of Northland's community health services and have forged close partnerships with primary care, NGOs and Maori health providers. The General Manager, Surgical and Support Services is a key member of the DHB's Executive Leadership Team and has delegated responsibility for:
• Departments of General Surgery, ENT, Urology, Anaesthetics, ICU, Radiology, Orthopaedics, Pathology/Laboratory, Outpatients (Surgical and Medical), Orthopaedic and Surgical Wards (Whangarei only), Operating Theatres (Whangarei only) and Oncology and Haematology. This includes developing strategies with the Rural Hospitals to ensure that outpatient and surgical capacity in those hospitals is both maximised and fully utilised, despite reporting to a different General Manager.
• Ensure safe, timely and quality patient care, in particular, meeting the Ministry of Health targets for all aspects of planned care: acknowledging that many key resources, such as physicians and some theatres, are managed within other directorates and hospitals - this and other constraints are managed through collaborative DHB-wide relationships and performance management structures
• Sound financial management including maximising revenue from all sources and balancing minimising expenditure with the need to deliver targets on activity volumes
• Proactive and responsive human resource management
• Management of, and participation in, capital decision making
