Expressions of interest are invited for Software and Systems' Engineer positions within the Information Assurance and Cyber Security Directorate (IACD) of the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB), based in Wellington.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is an integral part of the GCSB. The engineering teams are responsible for the design, development, implementation and management of technical solutions that enhance New Zealand's detection of, and resilience to, cyber threats.
We are looking for candidates with strong engineering backgrounds who can evolve our current systems to be able to handle and anticipate the dynamic cyber threat landscape.
The roles allow for a high degree of autonomy and flexibility; unique solutions and creative problem solving are encouraged. You will be designing and implementing solutions that meet required organisational outcomes and delivering operational capabilities to our stakeholders across government and the private sector, both nationally and internationally.
The existing teams are highly capable and experienced with a great can-do culture, willing to try new things, and push the boundaries.
To be successful in these roles you will need to provide evidence of your expertise, passion and enthusiasm for engineering.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
The ability to use or learn about a wide variety of Open Source technologies
Experience working in an agile team
Experience working in Continuous Integration environments
Experience in complex system design

Specific technical expertise can be demonstrated through the following:
Software Engineers (C2/19/87):
Intermediate to advanced software experience; including:
Strong knowledge of Python and object oriented languages
Experience with the entire deployment process; including packaging, and automated deployment

Systems Engineers (C2/19/108):
Intermediate to advanced network and system configuration experience; including
Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef or similar
A good understanding of network engineering and/or storage technologies
Solid Linux and/or Windows Server or Desktops administration skills

In addition to the technical experience listed above, you will also be able to show an enthusiasm for solving complex problems. You will have strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to create concise and effective technical documentation.

Salary from $79,797 - $119,695 per annum

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.
You must be able to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
