Orthopaedic Consultant, Orthopaedics1.0 FTE
Closes30 Sep 2019
Posted13 Aug 2019
ABOUT THE ROLE
The orthopaedic service at Hauora Tairawhiti provides the management of general orthopaedic trauma and musculoskeletal conditions. Complex trauma, spinal surgery and complex hand injuries are currently referred to tertiary centres and bone tumours and soft tissue sarcomas are referred for opinions in Auckland.
This role will support the service by providing a broad spectrum of elective care, but an interest in upper limb/hands/foot and ankle would be favourable. As well as general orthopaedic trauma surgery you will share responsibility for the specialist orthopaedic assessment and care of patients at Gisborne Hospital. It is expected that you will also participate on the on call roster which is currently one in five.
This position would suit a general orthopaedic surgeon, but the department would be supportive of developing specialist areas of interest.
We are looking for a colleague and team-player who is keen to enhance our orthopaedic service, and who will take the initiative to help us develop new areas as our population continues to expand.
We are currently developing nurse practitioners and physiotherapists and we have arthroplasty pathways in place. The department has consultant delivered services, supported by house officers. Currently there are no middle grades, and therefore you would be first on-call (non-resident).
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Hold FRACS Orthopaedic Surgery or equivalent that is registerable with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
Experience in upper limb/hands/foot and ankle is preferred but should not exclude applications.
