About the team
The Intellectual Disability Service (IDS) is part of the Specialist Mental Health Services based at Wakari Hospital. The IDS comprises of three parts, Ward 10a - a 12 bed inpatient service, Helensburgh Cottage - a four bed Inpatient Rehabilitation unit and the Community Liaison team. You will work alongside the multidisciplinary team comprising of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Mental Health Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and Psychiatrists.
Ward 10a is a medium secure 12 bed inpatient service for intellectually disabled clients, aged 17 to 65 years, whom require assessment and treatment under the Mental Health Act or are subject to the criminal justice system via the Intellectual Disability Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation Act 2003.
About you/about the role
As an Occupational Therapist with experience in a mental health setting, you'll provide a discipline specific perspective through the facilitation and delivery of the occupational therapy process, including assessments, treatment planning and interventions for consumers admitted to the unit. This takes place in both group and individual settings.

To be an effective Occupational Therapist and to fit well into our dedicated team, you will have sound skills in occupational therapy assessment, treatment planning, implementation and evaluation, ideally from having worked in a mental health setting previously. But what will be most evident in your CV will be your client centred approach and your passion for working with people with an intellectual disability.
To ensure the continued wellbeing of your clients through best practice, you'll liaise extensively with fellow Occupational Therapists throughout Southern DHB.
This is a fixed-term, full-time role, requiring a NZ Registered Occupational Therapist, a current annual practicing certificate, and a clean full driver's licence and have met the requirements of NZ Vulnerable Children's Act.
