Job Description

We’re seeking Registered Nurses with at least 2 years post graduate experience to work with adult offenders in the acute inpatient forensic units at their Porirua site just north of central Wellington. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team in this important and rewarding role.
The acute forensic inpatient service consists of Purehurehu (male only unit) and Rangipapa (mixed gender unit).
The main function of Purehurehu and Rangipapa is to provide a safe and secure environment for people who have been admitted into hospital for assessment and/or treatment through the criminal justice system.
People are admitted into these units from two main sources. They are either referred from the courts for assessment and/or treatment as part of the judicial process, or they are admitted from prison for psychiatric care and treatment.
Why this team?
This is a supportive and dynamic multi disciplinary team and you will be encouraged to utilise your skills and grow in your career.
Professional development opportunities are a given, as well as the ability to up-skill and to take on other roles.
The units both have dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialists and Coordinators to support their nursing staff and there is a comprehensive orientation programme during which you will be supernumerary.
Our wider campus offers strong collegial support. It also features a state of the art learning and development resource for staff, with additional financial allowances for meeting targets with your PDRP

You will be able to assess, treat and assist in the recovery of people with mental illness who have committed a criminal offence or are at high risk in the community. This a great opportunity for you to utilise your skills and be part of a supportive, dynamic multi disciplinary team.
Skills & Experience:
We’re looking for highly motivated nurses, who display a positive attitude and enthusiasm for this area of work and who:
Provide quality care and services to the clients, their friends and whanau in collaboration with the MDT
Can understand risk assessment and have the ability to think on their feet when identifying and managing risk
Have a positive solution focused approach with the ability to use their initiative
Have knowledge of rehabilitation and recovery models and social inclusion
Provide nursing care in accordance with the NCNZ scope of practice (Registered Nurse) and the CCDHB Professional Development and Recognition Plan
Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse and you must hold a Mental Health Nursing scope of practice
Hold a current practicing certificate
New Zealand Driver License desirable but not essential
Having post registration education/learning experiences in mental health nursing (advantageous)
