In the last year we started a programme for a Medical Tutor Specialist position (Medical Officer Special Scale (MOSS) rotation) which will provide oversight of our General Medicine inpatient teams at Dunedin hospital. The advanced trainees in this program will work closely with the Clinical Director and Consultant Physicians to ensure an efficient and high quality service. Candidates will need to have completed most of their training in General and Acute Care Medicine according to the current RACP criteria: (at least) 30 months towards their fellowship requirements in General Medicine, including 6 months core General Medicine and 6 months of a high acuity run. A work week includes ~1:6 call with post-acute and standard ward rounds with their junior staff. General Medicine outpatient clinics. And adequate time available to do project work if required. Supervision, both direct and indirect, will be provided by other SMOs including a consultant available for advice at all times when on call. This is an excellent opportunity to hone specialist skills before becoming fully vocationally registered. It is intended to aid the transition from registrar working under supervision to specialist providing supervision to junior staff. Dunedin Hospital is a tertiary level hospital with a full range of elective and acute surgical specialities and can offer you a varied and challenging array of Internal Medicine specialism.
