ABOUT THE ROLE The Medical Department at Hauora Tairawhiti is open for applications for an advanced trainee for the 2022 - 2023 registrar year. We are accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for Basic and Advanced Trainees. Our service includes nine medical registrars working closely with SMOs, junior registrars and house surgeons to provide efficient and effective care for the people of Tairawhiti. As a medical registrar, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in general medicine as part of our team. The department consists of six Physicians in General Medicine with sub-specialty interests and two outpatient Consultant Cardiologists as well as specialist nurses and visiting sub-specialists. As part of your inpatient duties, you will participate in medical admissions and management with an unselected medical take, giving you exposure to a wide range of medical presentations and procedures. There are also a number of educational opportunities including journal club, protected teaching and clinical skills sessions. As an advanced trainee, in addition to the above, you will have the opportunity to develop and refine your skills in general medicine as part of our team. There are also opportunities for audits and participation in service provision for the community as well as potential for research supported by our SMOs. Gisborne Hospital a 115 bed acute care hospital which serves a wide geographical area, Tairawhiti, extending up the East Cape of New Zealand, creating enormous scope and variety in the work available to an enthusiastic registrar. Providing healthcare to a population of 47,000, Hauora Tairawhiti is well supported locally by comprehensive surgical services and has a full range of diagnostic facilities on site including a new MRI scanner and CT scanner. We have strong ties with our tertiary referral centre in Waikato. Gisborne is a relaxed city offering access to outstanding leisure pursuits and a caring, safe community.
