The Role
As a Medical Registrar at Southland Hospital, you will gain exposure in the care of patients covering all the subspecialist groups, through working in our General Medicine runs! You will work closely alongside your colleagues in 1 of 6, tight-knit, Consultant led teams (each team consisting of a Consultant, Registrar, House Officer and Trainee Intern). This will provide you with the opportunity to receive great one on one training, consistent support and supervision.
You will receive excellent opportunities for development through a high level of SMO contact and supervision - in addition to 24/7 access to the library, weekly teaching, grand rounds, case presentations, journal clubs, tutorials, regular RMO forums, presentations and more! If you are a trainee, such breadth of experience will mean you have a high chance of success with your FRACP exam. In addition to this (as a Medical Registrar) you will also be involved in the training of House Officers at Southland Hospital.
The Hospital
Southland Hospital is situated in Invercargill. It is a modern, 180+ bed, secondary level 4 base hospital. The Hospital services a population of approximately 108,000 through Invercargill, Queenstown, Gore, Stewart Island and rural Southland. Free car parking is available to you (whilst at work).
The Location
Southland is a wonderful place for all, including families - with great educational facilities (primary through tertiary) and many activities available for all ages. Some of New Zealand’s most famous national parks, ski fields and wineries are within easy driving distance.

2 years post qualification experience with a minimum of 9 months medical House Officer or SHO experience.
