Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centred care, and excellence.About the RoleWe currently have a permanent opportunity working 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday) for a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our Endocrinology team.
This varied position includes the use of automated biochemistry analysers, performing manual assays (ELISA, and RIA), preparation of samples for mass spectrometric analysis, and reporting of laboratory results.
The successful applicant will also contribute to the quality management procedures for the Endocrinology Section.About the ServiceAt the Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL), our Specialist Testing Service is proud of its status as a leading-edge reference laboratory.
Within our Specialist Testing Service, we have over 65 skilled and dedicated Scientists and Technicians working across several specialist areas including: Specialist Chemistry, Protein Chemistry, Immunology, Endocrinology, and Toxicology.
We are one of the few diagnostic health laboratories in New Zealand that develop new and innovative tests to meet changing healthcare needs.About YouIn this role, you will be responsible for:Carrying out techniques to a high standard according to laboratory protocol and identifying and actioning results efficiently.Effectively and efficiently utilising the laboratory information system to register patients, input data, and access results.Carrying out troubleshooting of tests and equipment, complying with service/laboratory methods.Developing and maintaining your skills and professional expertise through teaching sessions and educational meetings.Your skills will include:A general understanding of endocrinology and mass spectrometry is highly desirable.A client/patient focus and passion for delivering a high-quality service.The ability to liaise and communicate with a wide range of clinical and technical staff is imperative.Good working knowledge of a wide range of manual and semi-automated techniques.The ability to lead quality improvement initiatives along with excellent time management skills, enabling you to thrive in a fast-paced environment.New Zealand Registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician.Training in this specialty area will be provided for the successful applicant if required.Additional RequirementsRegistration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand.Ability to maintain high professional standards aligned with the competence standards.Understanding of or willingness to learn the significance and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.Commitment to physical and mental well-being, with the stamina to meet role demands.Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.A strong drive for excellence and personal accountability.Self-awareness and the ability to positively influence others.High standards of personal, professional, and institutional integrity.A keen interest in professional growth and development.A curious mindset with a willingness to challenge routines to improve processes.Working for Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of Aotearoa/New Zealand.
