About the Role: Health is a 24/7 business and Canterbury HealthLaboratories (CHL) is no exception! We're on the lookout for a NZ RegisteredMedical Laboratory Scientist to join our Haematology Laboratory. OurHaematology laboratory provides an essential 24-hour service to not only thehospital but the wider community. Our primary focus is to provide the bestservice possible for the care of the patient. We are looking for a passionate and proactiveMedical Laboratory Scientist to join us in this permanent position withthe opportunity to join our small but experienced team. The wider team is asmall close-knit group that enjoys a fast-paced and varied workplace. As a memberof the Haematology Team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the deliveryof high-quality medical laboratory services. You will collaborate closely withthe Core Laboratory Team, wider CHL team, and the communities we serve to buildtrust, foster common understanding, and promote shared ownership of healthcareinitiatives. Teamaccountability :As a member of the Haematology Team, this role has shared accountability for: Engagingwith the Core Labroratory Team, the wider CHL team, the people of theCanterbury and West Coast districts and the wider Te Whatu Ora-Health NewZealand systems to build trust, common understanding and shared ownership. Performinga variety of duties in the routine areas of the laboratory, including basictroubleshooting, result interpretation and reporting Doingthe right thing, being and staying well and valuing everyone Providinga laboratory service that adheres to quality and safety KeyResponsibilities: Manaakitanga andWhanaungatanga - To lead by example by showing respectand kinship, generosity, and care for the people we work with and who services,their whanau and communities. To also show respect and care for their informationand stories Technical- Responsible for the operational performanceand daily operation of the Laboratory within delegated authority and in linewith organisational goals and legislative requirements Ahigh-quality service - Supervise and perform manual & automated assaysfor measuring a range of different sample types Laboratory information system - Knowledgeable and responsible for their ownoperation and use of the laboratory information system to register patients,input data and access results. Routine laboratory - Responsible for performing a variety ofduties in the laboratory, including basic troubleshooting of tests andequipment relevant to the laboratory's operation. Quality assurance - Participate as a working member of theQuality Group [EQG] to maintain accreditation to ISO 15189 Training - Engage with team members to provide aconsistent approach to quality standards. Safety - Observe all Te Whatu Ora safe work procedures andinstructions Skill and professional development - actively work with management to increaseskill sets and potential professional development opportunities Kaitiakitanga - The Medical Laboratory Scientist to act as a guardianwith engagement from wider CHL to continuously develop ways to decrease wastethat can have an adverse effect on the environment. Tobe effective and succeed in this role it is expected the person will have thefollowing proven capabilities, qualifications, experience, knowledge, andskills: Registration with the Medical SciencesCouncil of New Zealand as a Medical Laboratory Scientist The ability to maintain a high professionalstandard in line with the competence standards for MLS practitioners Have at minimum a Bachelor'sdegree qualification and preferred working experience in Haematology departmentof a diagnostic laboratory, including morphology reporting.
