Details of the offer

Permanent full-time
It's an exciting time to be in Invercargill and a privilege to work in this region.
You can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and the endless recreational activities we have to offer with Central Otago, Fiordland and the Catlin's on our doorstep. As New Zealand's southernmost city we proudly encourage a good work/life balance and with direct flights to Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington the rest of the world is also within easy reach.
There is a high level of confidence and beneath the wide blue skies, our prosperous southern city is undergoing the biggest resurgence in its 166-year history. Invercargill's reputation for being family-friendly is well deserved, with affordable housing, great schools, and amazing facilities.
Environmental Services has a broad brief. Reporting to the Group Manager - Environmental and Planning Services you will take an active lead in the delivery of services whilst managing staff and the divisional budget. You will also contribute at a strategic level further developing your skill set.
You will be responsible for ensuring our statutory responsibilities are met in relation to environmental health, food, liquor licensing, parking infringement and animal control. We have rules to work within but it's your ability to influence your team's capacity to respond to the nuances of given situations that differentiates you - you're a bit of a philosopher/strategist, committed to, and understand, the community in which you and your team live and work.
A qualified Environmental Health Officer you'll have significant post registration experience and the credibility that comes with such. You'll develop your management capabilities amongst a team, and with a Group Manager who, champions innovation and 'thinking outside the square' - a team who in fact believe that 80% of regulation is education!
At Invercargill City Council we pride ourselves on our values - positivity, respect, responsibility and above and beyond. Finding the right fit for our team is really important to us and we work hard to provide an environment reflective of these values.
For more information please see the full job description online or contact the Invercargill City Council on 03 211 1777.
Please note, all applicants will need to have the right to live and work in New Zealand. While all applications will be reviewed, only those who meet our criteria will be contacted.
