Property Services, as part of the wider University of Otago is a Division responsible for buildings with a replacement cost of NZ$2.5 billion, and more than 22,000 hectares of land. With over 3,500 University Staff and 20,000 students, it can be a bit like helping to run a small town.
We deploy, support and maintain a wide and exciting array of equipment and facilities including state-of-the-art research laboratories, large student accommodation facilities, commercial premises, and world-class teaching facilities.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager Property Operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the University’s energy requirements are well managed, procured and reported upon. This key leadership position holds overarching accountability over building controls and building systems as they relate to energy consumption and will be the University’s appointed energy subject matter expert.
As a Manager Energy & Building Controls, you will be responsible for the Energy & Building Control team (a mix of technical professionals, engineers and technicians) – an integral part of the Property Services and the Operations Group. You will act as the tactical interface and business relationship link between strategic asset management functions and the Trade Services business as it relates to energy and building controls management.
Your skills and experience
We are looking for a technical expert with proven experience managing senior stakeholder relationships and delivering high quality customer outcomes.
You will also have:
• Relevant qualification in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Significant energy management and/or mechanical engineering experience
• Ability to engage, motivate, support and drive a team of technical experts
• Strong emotional intelligence, empathy and ability to work with people from varying backgrounds, skill sets and competencies.

This is a full-time, permanent position.
