At Tauranga City Council its all go in Finance and we are recruiting for a Management Accountant to join our team as we work through Tauranga City Council's long term plan and the challenges we face delivering and funding new infrastructure to meet the demands of a growing city.
This position provides management accounting services, financial information and reporting for council and external agencies. You will be involved in training and providing support and information to finance business partners and budget managers across the organisation. Your goal is to help ensure our financial system, information and reporting is reliable, timely and helpful. Your work ensures budget managers have the information, knowledge and skills required to prepare and manage their budgets effectively. You will use our new SAP finance system, along with corporate planning and modelling systems and data warehouse reporting to help you meet the requirements of our multi-faceted business operations
They key result areas of this role are management and financial reporting, accounting support and training. The position offers variety and challenge - an opportunity to broaden your experience across a range of business operations from transportation services, to water supply or regulatory operations. You will have an opportunity to develop skills in analysing financial and non-financial information using SAP finance and reporting, our new corporate planning system, and BI using the data warehouse to present insights and information to our wider finance team and business decision-makers
As this position is dealing with a wide range of managers and other stakeholders across our large organisation we are looking for someone who has excellent communication and people skills.
Additional to this, the skills and experience needed for this position are;
An Accounting degree (Bachelor level) or equivalent level of learning through experience
Experience in dealing with large volumes of data
Experience in reconciling balance sheet accounts
Understanding of financial accounting and reporting requirements
Proven computing and spread-sheeting skills to at least intermediate level
Strategic and analytical thinker
Proven ability to prioritise and schedule work
Effective communication skills (written and oral)
Proven ability to motivate self and others
Ability to be an effective and supportive team member
