The Whakapapa whanau are a small but ambitious team, running year-round operations on the northern slopes of Mt Ruapehu. In winter, from June until October, this includes a world-class ski area. In summer, from December until April, this includes our summer sightseeing operation, heroing our iconic Sky Waka gondola. Each year we welcome hundreds of thousands of manuhiri (guests) to Whakapapa, many with life-long connections to the maunga (mountain) and surrounding region, some even third or fourth generation. Mo te tunga | About the role The Lifts Head of Department (HOD) at Whakapapa is a pivotal leadership position responsible for ensuring the safe and courteous conveying of guests and staff on our lift system in a timely and efficient manner to be able to support commercial markers. Alongside the lift team the Lifts HOD will oversee the Ticket Validation and Car Parking teams. As a key member of the leadership team, the Lifts HOD will play a crucial role in optimizing the overall employee and guest experience and operational effectiveness of the ski area. The role reports to the Operations Manager and will itself have around 40 team members. Key responsibilities include: Ensures that all lift facilities and car parking requirements are ready to operate on time. Ensures compliance with all safety, environmental and statutory requirements. Provide a professional and efficient service to all on mountain employees and guests. Ensures performance standards are clearly communicated and monitored. Responsible for the recruitment of the team. Familiarity with the ski area environment and lift operations knowledge. Experience leading and managing teams. The receivers continue trading the Company and are working on transferring the ownership of the Whakapapa and Turoa ski areas to new operators. On 18 December, DOC announced public notification of Pure Turoa Limited's concession application to operate Turoa ski area.
