SCHOOLS’ LIAISON
Who we are
The University of Otago turned 150 years old in 2019, and is New Zealand's first and oldest university. It has a strong teaching and research tradition and well-established national and international linkages. It is also one of New Zealand's largest universities, with over 20,000 students, assets in excess of $1.6 billion and 4,000 full time equivalent staff based in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Invercargill. Ranked within the top 3% of universities in the world, the University of Otago recognises that its staff are the key to its success.
The University of Otago Schools’ Liaison team has offices in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin. We visit secondary schools all over New Zealand during Terms 1 and 2 each year to let senior students know about the opportunities for living and learning at Otago, returning in Terms 3 and 4 to help students plan their studies.
The role
As the Liaison Administrator for the Dunedin office, you will provide a friendly, professional first point of contact for secondary school students and their parents, as well as secondary school staff.
You will assist intending students and their families, ensuring that their needs are met in an appropriate manner. You will also provide administrative support for the University’s Liaison Officers and the Auckland-based Head of Schools’ Liaison, and coordinate dissemination of information and marketing collateral to our Wellington and Auckland Offices. A large part of the role is to coordinate the University Campus Tours. This involves being responsible for the tours, hiring and training student tour guides and leading tours of up to 20 people yourself if a guide isn’t available. You will also provide administrative support for our Schools’ Ambassador programme and coordinate school visits to campus, liaising with schools and university academics.
Your skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
• Relevant administration experience in a busy office.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a genuine enjoyment in working with young people and their families.
• High level computer abilities, including using databases and spreadsheets.
• A positive and collegial attitude.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Basic project management or events skills.
• Written and spoken Te Reo fluency would be an advantage in this role.
