Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor of Structural Engineering - TimberLecturer/ Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor / Professor in Structural Timber Engineering Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering Faculty of Engineering University of Canterbury Full-time at 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE)Continuing position (i.e. permanent)Au Mahi | What You Will Do Applications are invited for a position in structural timber engineering in the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering. An appointment will be made at the level of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor, depending on the successful candidate's relevant experience. This is an exciting opportunity to join our structural engineering team in a strong and dynamic department. Applicants should have a strong background in structural timber engineering, including expertise in the behaviour of timber structures during earthquakes or fires. An interest in sustainable structural engineering will also be useful. The successful applicant will contribute to teaching traditional core structural undergraduate courses and developing new courses at the postgraduate level. The successful applicant will develop a strong, externally-funded research programme and be expected to collaborate with other academics in the Department's teaching and research activities, complementing the current research activities of the Department in structural engineering. The appointee will be expected to develop links with and contribute to the wider engineering profession at local, national and international levels. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and have a demonstrated record of relevant published research in internationally recognised journals of the highest quality. The successful candidate will have a commitment to excellence in teaching of core courses in structural timber engineering at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, delivering effective teaching methods that enable a wide range of learners to succeed. The appointee will also demonstrate a background, where appropriate given their experience, in supervising undergraduate projects, Masters and Ph.D. students, an ability to collaborate with others in the University, and interest in contributing to Departmental, College, and University activities. Practical design office experience will be an advantage. The role of the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering (CNRE) is to remain at the forefront of research and technology and preserve our strong international reputation for high-quality teaching.  The successful appointee will have access to a range of research facilities (with technical staff) and expertise in related disciplines.
