Leave your legacy on Auckland
He angitutanga: The opportunity

We would like to hear from civil and/or environmental engineers across principal/team leader levels to join us in this leadership role. This is a great opportunity for you to manage a small team responsible for developing and implementing engineering best practice across Auckland Council.

You'll be accountable for the development of infrastructure design guidance, technical policy and specifications for Auckland Council and industry, and codes of practice to ensure that all infrastructure meet council standards and requirements. You will also lead the coordination and engagement across council, CCOs and industry to deliver high standard technical outcomes.

This position within council's Engineering & Technical Services (ETS) presents you with the opportunity to make your mark and leave your legacy on Auckland. ETS consists of a group of engineering, technical and contract specialists, providing engineering and technical expertise, including assistance with the management of council's high-risk assets. The success of our team relies on strong relationships with related teams throughout council and across multiple departments.

He korero mou: About you

Ideally you will have extensive experience in the civil and/or environmental engineering field, with strong programme and project management and delivery experience, including procurement and management of external consultants, academic bodies, and leading engineering steering groups. Experience in managing engineering resources, technical experts and building high performing teams, although not essential, would be desirable.

You will be a natural influencer and relationship builder, and you relish the opportunity to work closely with council organisations, consultants, academic bodies and other industry experts across Auckland and New Zealand.

Nga ahuatanga kei a matou: What we offer

Beyond a competitive salary, we offer you the opportunity to be part of a diverse organisation and a well-respected and influential team.

You'll also get the opportunity to represent council on relevant National Standards Committees and specialist technical industry groups as well as champion and author the development of infrastructure design and technical guidance documents and standards.

This role is not only great for your professional profile, but you will get immense satisfaction that your work will have city-shaping, long lasting effects on building a resilient Auckland.

Note that the official position title for this role is "Technical Guidance Practice Lead"

Applications close Wednesday 7 April 2021

Auckland Council is an equal opportunity employer (EOE) and we are committed to providing a working environment that embraces and values diversity and inclusion. If you have any support or access requirements, we encourage you to advise us at the time of application to assist you through the recruitment process.
