Details of the offer

Xero is a beautiful, easy-to-use platform that helps small businesses and their accounting and bookkeeping advisors grow and thrive.

At Xero, our purpose is to make life better for people in small business, their advisors, and communities around the world. This purpose sits at the centre of everything we do. We support our people to do the best work of their lives so that they can help small businesses succeed through better tools, information and connections. Because when they succeed they make a difference, and when millions of small businesses are making a difference, the world is a more beautiful place.

Come and join us at Xero! Due to ongoing growth, we are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to join our Bank Integrations team, based in Auckland!

Who's the team?

As part of the Bank Integrations team, you'll be joining one of the cornerstones of what makes Xero incredible. Without us, Xero wouldn't be where it is today. We work directly with the banks to implement and improve integrations, creating the links that make so many of Xero's awesome product features possible.

Our mission is to provide a simple, seamless and beautiful experience for our customers who seek to connect their financial data into Xero.

What's the role?

As a Lead Engineer, you'll set the standard for engineering excellence. You will support one or two pods to build their technical capability and improve their development practices, enabling them to create and deliver beautiful software to our customers, faster.

You'll work with the engineers in your pods to ensure a quality experience for both our internal, and external customers. You'll coordinate engineering change across pods and between pods, guide technical design, and apply Xero Engineering Standards. Working alongside Product Owners you will influence prioritisation and planning of product backlogs, and support continuous improvement in engineering practices. You'll retain some hands-on experience in supporting development, testing and R&D, and participate in code reviews where expert opinion or cross-pod coordination is required.

You'll work closely with the People Lead to support the ongoing professional development of pod engineers, and demonstrate your own growth mindset to upskill and lead the engineering community. You'll help build and manage software that solves engineering problems at scale.

What you'll bring with you:
Experience in coaching and mentoring engineers across multiple disciplines.
Strong collaborative leadership style to facilitate engineering change across pods.
Ability to lead or facilitate discussions on application design.
Ability to contribute to discussions around new standards and revisions to existing ones.
Ability to act as an incident commander in production incidents.
Expertise in tracking engineering performance and operational health metrics.
Expertise in a microservices or distributed systems architecture.
Experience in reviewing teams codebases, aiming to maintain high standards for security, testability, and ability to make changes easily.
Experience in leading discussions and implementation for scaling products.
Ability to collaborate with product and architecture to influence prioritisation and planning.

Why you should become a Xero

It's a diverse and inclusive environment, with people who will respect, challenge, support and mentor you to do the best work of your life. We're a place where innovation and change are not only encouraged but also celebrated. We value our people and want them to enjoy and take pride in their work.

We're very supportive of flexible working arrangements and offer a competitive remuneration package including shares and life insurance, in addition to your base salary. We have a culture we're proud of. Whether you're after a workplace with a social vibe, or a workplace which understands your family is priority - Xero is all of that and more.

Xero is an NZ Immigration Accredited Employer and Rainbow Tick certified too.

Please include a cover letter in your application, telling us why you're a great fit for this position.
