Details of the offer

Generous Remuneration - Pro Rata'd
About the Role We are looking for a lead educator to help develop and run an environmental education programme on Rotoroa Island (http://www.rotoroa.org.nz) in Terms 1 & 4 in 2021.
The programme will involve an experiential learning trip to the island for each class as well as before and after visits to each school by the educator
The position would also co-ordinate the work of 2 part time educators as we are working on 30 students per educator on each day on island
A basic outline of the programme is available.
We are targeting students in the 11-14 age group.
About You
The lead educator would also be responsible for 2 support educators as well as liaising with and booking school visits, reporting on progress against outcomes and budget.
Ideally you will have experience in conservation/environmental education - however this is not essential – the right attitude and a passion for inspiring young people outdoors is the key quality we desire.
We need a person who is experienced with the NZ curriculum and can develop and teach a complimentary learning through doing programme.
The lead educator role has an immediate start and is for 30 hours a week until the end of Term 1 and then 3 days a week for Term 4.
Experience Required
We need a person who has:
experience working with 11-14 year olds
a teacher experienced with school curriculums
outdoor education and related health and safety and risk management experience
able to work independently from home (RIT does not have offices)
ideally has experience or at least a genuine interest in conservation and the environment
independently motivated and proven ability to work to tight timeframes, within budgets and agreed outputs
can get on and communicate with a wide range of people – teachers, students, volunteers, island staff etc
can manage others
can professionally represent the Rotoroa Trust and honour the intent of the funding we have available
able to provide detailed programme reviews that includes how the pilot went, was it to budget, what issues were there, how can they be resolved etc

Remuneration
This position has been budgeted on a Step 8 of the Secondary Teachers trained salary scale which would be ‘pro rata’d’ for the duration and hours required.
There may be some possible flexibility to adapt hours and period of assignment for the right person.
To be eligible for this position you must currently reside in NZ and have a legal right to work permanently in this country.
