An opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Landscape Architect within the Infrastructure Planning and Capital Works department at Whangarei District Council.
Whangarei is a progressive city that is currently experiencing rapid growth. In response to this, the Whangarei Complete Streets Master Plan has recently been developed - a strategic 30-year vision for the revitalisation of public spaces and streets within the city centre, and the Hundertwasser Art Gallery and Wairau Maori Art Gallery, due to open in December 2021, has been a catalyst for private development in the city centre.
As a result, we are about to embark on delivering a programme of exciting ‘people and environment' focussed projects that will positively shape the future of the city and surrounding district.
We are looking for a Landscape Architect who will provide assistance to the wider project team, developing landscape designs on a wide variety of projects of various scales. You will work closely with the community, hapu, internal stakeholders, consultants and contractors to contribute to the delivery of the capital works programme, from large infrastructure projects and urban streetscapes to small parks and open spaces.
This role will suit a tertiary qualified Landscape Architect or similar who is looking to develop a career within the industry.
We would like to hear from enthusiastic and motivated applicants who have:
Landscape Architect (BLA, MLA or equivalent) qualification or 3+years experience
Understanding of project delivery from concept through to detailed documentation
Able to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Ability to clearly communicate and interact with colleagues, consultants and contractors (both written and verbally)
Ability to engage and consult with the community, hapu and other stakeholders
Confidence in presenting to a wide audience
Experience in a design office environment
Excellent design, graphic and presentation skills using AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Sketch Up and MS Office Suite
Proactive approach to self-managing your workload and meeting deadlines
Some project management and construction supervision experience would be an advantage.
We offer a professional and progressive environment, continuous learning and development opportunities, a range of flexible working and work/life balance options, Health Insurance, Life Insurance (2x your base salary), payment of a professional membership, an active Social Club, plus much more.
Whangarei is a district on the rise. It is Northland's only city and largest commercial and retail centre. Nestled between forest clad hills with wonderful walking trails, where the Hatea River meets the beautiful Whangarei Harbour, nowhere in the district is more than 40 kilometres away from our spectacular coastline and commuting to WDC's city centre location is a breeze.
There's a lot that'll make you 'Love it Here!'
If this sounds just right for you, send your application along with a portfolio of work (maximum 5 project examples) detailing your role in each project.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the People and Capability team on: (09) 430 4200 or 0800 932 463.
