Details of the offer

The Horizons region extends

over 22,200km2 – from Ruapehu in the north and Horowhenua in the south, to Whanganui in the west and Tararua in the east. It’s a landscape as vast and varied as the over 240,000 people who call it home. At Horizons Regional Council we work to make our region a great place to live, work and play.
The role

Due to the retirement of a long serving staff member we are currently seeking an experienced Land Management Advisor based out of our Woodville Service Centre. While our preference is to find someone with at least a couple of years’ experience we are willing to offer training and support to you if you are the right candidate. This is a full time position. You will primarily be involved in soil conservation projects with particular emphasis on erosion control activities relating to our Sustainable Land Use Initiative. You will have a qualification or experience in a relevant environmental or agricultural discipline as you will be using your expertise to carry out soil and land use mapping and to design and cost erosion control programmes. Ability to use mapping databases would be an advantage. You will be working with landowners and you should have a good understanding of farming and farming practices in the hill country environment. It would be an advantage if you had knowledge in farm business systems or nutrient management.
About you

As well as having sound technical and farming knowledge you will have very good communication skills, be able to deal with a range of customers, support and manage projects and organize work programmes for yourself, farmers and contractors. Being locally based, you will know the area, have the ability to build strong relationships with landowners and have a positive and friendly attitude. Being familiar with Horizons’ major work programmes and having knowledge of Local Government processes and procedures would be beneficial.
Why should you apply?

When you join us, you can look forward to a rewarding career full of opportunities to develop, along with a positive and supportive work environment. We do this through:
Strong focus on employee health, wellness and wellbeing
Flexible family friendly work environment
Assistance with tertiary education
Positive health and safety culture
Capability development programmes that enable advancement into leadership roles, along with skill development across different functional jobs; and
A supportive and social work environment where enduring friendships and collegiality develop.
Horizons are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to ensuring we have a diverse and inclusive workplace so our people reflect the diversity of our region
Pease Note: When applying through Seek, you will receive an email from QJumpers with a link to complete your application. We will not receive your application if this link is not followed and the application completed.

Wednesday 8th July at 5:00 pm.
