A fantastic opportunity has arisen in our civil engineering laboratory team for a focused and determined individual who wishes to develop a career in the 'technical services' sector of the civil construction industry.
Road Science is New Zealand’s leading designer and supplier of bitumen and bitumen based products. We have world class manufacturing plants and storage facilities for bitumen, emulsions and polymer modified binders. Road Science has five IANZ accredited civil engineering laboratories and a number of project specific mobile laboratories. We also provide expertise in pavement design, technical and consultancy services to our clients.
Based at our IANZ accredited Christchurch Laboratory and reporting to the Laboratory Manager, this position provides technical support for projects throughout New Zealand. The Laboratory is responsible for ensuring all products - such as asphalt, construction aggregates, and soils are tested to the appropriate quality, standards and customer specifications. This will include laboratory and field testing giving a great balance.
Every day will be an exciting adventure for you with tasks varying between checking pavement compaction on the Christchurch Southern Motorway Stage 2, carrying out an asphalt mix design in the laboratory and measuring the roughness, texture, and rutting of one of the Local Authority roading networks in some of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand.
About you:As the successful candidate for this role, ideally you will possess:
A strong zero harm culture
A mechanical and technically inclined mind
A strong attention to detail
Exposure to the roading, asset management, and/or data collection industry
Strong numeric, problem solving, scheduling and analytical skills
Data collection, analysis, and reporting skills
An interest in computers or coding
The ability to work as part of a team
Solid computer skills and exposure to a wide variety of computer applications including the Microsoft Office suite
The ability to calibrate, maintain and repair laboratory equipment
Excellent communication skills
Experience in a customer focused position
A current full Class 1 drivers licence
Good physical fitness
Flexibility to work at nights, during weekends and away from Christchurch
You will be motivated to take on a number of different tasks for different people and enjoy solving problems and delivering outcomes to customers. The current team enjoy working together and having fun whilst getting the job done.
