A rare opportunity to step into Laboratory Management exists for a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technician who has the skillset and is ready to make a definitive move.
Our Clyde laboratory is located at the Dunstan Hospital in the small historic township of Clyde, Central Otago. The hospital is a University of Otago rural teaching centre which means you will rub shoulders with competent and innovative staff. The area has experienced rapid economic development in the past few years and has access to excellent healthcare, education and outdoor pursuits - cycle trails, tramping, skiing, lakes and mountains. Clyde is 10 minutes from Alexandra - our well-serviced town, 50 minutes from Queenstown with an International airport and Wanaka the adventure playgrounds of the south. In a little over 2 hours you can drive to Dunedin, the tertiary education centre of the South, or Haast, the remote World Heritage Park on the West Coast. Staff are able to enjoy many of these areas with the added bonus of living in a family-friendly community.
We are looking for a manager to deliver the day to day, end to end 24/7 integrated laboratory service for the community and hospital in the Central Otago area covering Alexandra, Clyde and Cromwell.
Our long term well-respected manager has chosen to retire and as such, there is an opportunity for someone with proven leadership ability to step into the position.
In leading this operation you will be responsible for the daily operational activities, ensuring that these meet contractual and financial obligations. You will interact with DHB clinicians and management regarding service delivery. You will be supported by the Southern Community Laboratories and Healthscope laboratory network and management.
Managers often lament having to leave the bench, it being their first love, this role will allow for sufficient bench activity to ensure you can retain an APC and your love of hands-on lab work.
This role allows an MLS or MLT who is presently responsible for a department to step up into a broad laboratory operational management role, this could be a stepping stone to management of a larger laboratory or group of laboratories in the future.
