Details of the offer

Start from scratch - build, establish, manage and lead a new service
Passion for young people & desire to influence the care system is essential
Competitive annual salary, wellbeing program, well resourced office

About the organisation

VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai (Voice Of the Young and Care Experienced - Listen to me) is a community which connects tamariki and rangatahi who have been or are in care. At the centre of their kaupapa is the belief that the voices of children and young people in care need to be kept at the centre of all the decisions made about them.

This revolutionary organisation is the first of its kind. It is a totally independent non-governmental advocacy organisation that was co-designed with and for tamariki and rangatahi with care experience. It is building a community, promoting a youth leadership approach and exists to amplify the voices of care experienced tamariki and rangatahi.

About the job
A small, nimble and agile organisation, VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai has been fully operational for 12 months with teams embedded in Auckland, Northland and Christchurch. The focus is now on Wellington.

You'll be building, establishing, managing and leading a new service and team of Kaiwhakamana led by Kaiarahi from Wellington and the Hutt through to Tairawhiti including Manawatu, Whanganui, Taranaki and Hawke's Bay.

Highly visible, exciting and rewarding; this mahi is critical. Together with your team you will reach out, listen, connect and motivate the care experienced community, ensuring outcomes shift power, create change and leaders evolve. You'll build relationships with the wider community including care providers, Government, NGO's, whanau, hapu and iwi, voluntary and philanthropic organisations. Policy work, planning and reporting is required, along with co-design methodology to innovate, test, build, develop and deliver effective services.

Skills and experience required
A belief in the vision of the organisation, an authentic passion for young people and a genuine desire to influence the care system is essential. As well as:

An in-depth knowledge of the care sector including Youth Justice and Care and Protection service delivery within New Zealand, the legal framework as well as an understanding of tamariki and rangatahi in care and psychosocial impacts
Understanding of Maori tikanga, Te Ao Maori and a commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and improving outcomes for tamariki Maori.
An inclusive and collaborative leadership style from an education, health or social services background, with a relevant tertiary qualification.
A high performing self-starter with proven skills and experience in building a culture of excellence and teamwork, driving positive change and establishing or developing a service or small organisation.
You will be an expert communicator, inclusive and influential with political nous and a strong internal frame of reference.
Policy and report writing skills and knowledge
Community organising skills and experience of co-design methodology

You will need to cope well with a fluid and at times ambiguous environment. The challenge (and opportunity) here will be remaining agile, and designing at the same time as delivering. This will require a proactive, positive, energetic and confident approach.

What is in it for you

This is an opportunity to make a difference in an organisation that is a first of its kind with mahi that will change lives. You will work with fantastic people who will hold the vision with you. You will receive a competitive annual salary, the benefits of their wellbeing program and a well-resourced office.
