Mo te tunga | About the role:

We're looking for a passionate Kairangahau Maori to bring a matauranga Maori perspective to data, insights, research, and evaluation.

Your work will help guide the New Zealand Disability Strategy (NZDS) and improve outcomes for tangata whaikaha Maori and their whanau.

You will provide expert advice, lead research projects, and ensure Maori voices and values are reflected in our work.

You will draw upon your experience and knowledge of matauranga Maori and how this intersects with Western paradigms. Weaving both approaches, recognising the tensions and how to work through them will be highly valued.

This is a fixed term role ending 19 December 2025.



What you'll do:

* Provide specialist advice on Maori data and an understanding of the issues pertaining to Maori in terms of data.
* Provide specialist advise on matauranga Maori research, and evaluation methodologies and how to implement them within a government context.
* Lead projects that strengthen the evidence base for tangata whaikaha Maori wellbeing.
* Support the design of monitoring and reporting frameworks that reflect Maori data interests.
* Mentor and support others in the team to grow matauranga Maori research capability.
* Build strong relationships with government agencies, the disability community, and key stakeholders.


Mou | About you:

You will have working knowledge of matauranga Maori research and evaluation methods and an understanding of the disability data ecosystem and its challenges.

You will have demonstrated ability to provide strategic advice and influence decision-making.

Your strong relationship management skills will see you confidently building relationships particularly with Maori and tangata whaikaha Maori.

You will have strong experience leading research and evaluation projects and a solid understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Maori / Crown relationship.

To undertake this role successfully you will either be a disabled person, or you will be able to establish credibility and trust with the disability community.

Some ability in te reo Maori me ona tikanga is preferred.

Salary range: $102,533.00 - $124,402.00
