Onuku Runanga is the modern-day representative of the hapu Ngai Tarewa and Ngati Irakehu, with our marae based at Onuku, along the shore of Akaroa Harbour. Being one of the 18 Papatipu Runanga of Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu, Onuku as collective governance rights and responsibilities of the Iwi. have an ecologically vibrant takiwa that is holistically cared for by Onuku kaitiaki ensure our whanau achieve their absolute wellbeing (health, education, justice, wealth) have a culturally rich and thriving marae, hapu and whanau be financially successful (Runanga and whanau) have traditional communities for whanau to live and thrive within have a contemporary, vitalised marae that honours our whakapapa and meets the needs of whanau and manuhiri This role is a mixture of high-level strategic support and back to basics administration and operational oversight. We require a highly skilled, energetic, and thoughtful leader who can bring our core aspirations to life through organised and structured operational plans and support our people (mostly volunteers) to take ownership of those plans and achieve life-changing results for our people. Our Kaihautu will need to balance high-level quality advice to our governance team with day-to-day administration tasks to get stuff done. Administration/Operational tasks include overseeing our marae bookings, financial management (accounts receivable, payable, payroll), ensuring policies and procedures (including Health & Safety) are up to date and fit for purpose, catering and general supplies, communications, and full secretary services for our Executive hui and Runanga general meetings. Our Kaihautu will model and encourage team spirit. He or she will draw on his or her own mana to positively leverage and build high trust-based relationships with our leadership team, whanau and key strategic partners. The role requires exceptional leadership and working with our small team to deliver excellence across workplans. Onuku Administration Office, located in Sockburn, provides core administrative and policy support to Te Onuku Runanga. The Kaihautu role is primarily located at our town-based offices, with regular (monthly) trips to our marae. A good understanding of papatipu runanga communities is an advantage for any applicant.
