Teaching at Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu
Kaiako at Te Kura engage with our akonga online and face-to-face at huinga ako (advisories) and events, and also work onsite with colleagues in our regional offices. Te Kura aims to provide flexible working arrangements, so Kaiako are able to request to work from home for up to two days per week.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced kaiako to join our whanau, in Nga Kete o Te Ao Maori, in with experience in Ingarihi (English). This is an exciting opportunity to nurture and develop akonga in their journey through te ao Maori, while contributing to the preservation and advancement of Maori performing arts and culture in Te Aka Taumatua through teaching and resource development.
Te Aka Taumatua is a new team that leads our bilingual and immersion te reo Maori provision for full-time, tamariki, rangatahi and dual registered akonga at Te Kura. Te Aka Taumatua is still in its developmental stage but remains focussed on its role in the revitalisation of te reo Maori, to offer comprehensive options grounded in matauranga Maori for akonga and their whanau.
Te Aka Taumatua is a vine system that wraps around rakau. The vines carry the knowledge and wisdom of our people. It is a place that protects, nurtures and gives room to grow. One can come to seek shelter and safety and can then leave to go.
This role presents an opportunity to shape the next generation of young Maori leaders while contributing to the revitalization of te reo Maori and preservation of Maori performing arts. The successful candidate will join a supportive whanau committed to excellence in Maori education.

* Strong proficiency in te reo Maori me ona tikanga
* Deep knowledge of Te Ao Haka and its significance in te ao Maori
* Experience in NCEA assessment and moderation
* Understanding of local iwi histories and traditions
* Ability to create engaging learning experiences that connect akonga to their cultural heritage
* Strong relationships with whanau, hapu, and iwi
* Commitment to the preservation and advancement of te reo Maori
