We are lucky enough to be partnering with Network for Learning who are on the lookout for a talented IT Systems Lead. N4L exists to address digital inequity within the education system, so that every student in Aotearoa New Zealand has equal access to a safe digital environment to learn, regardless of where they live or go to school.
The digital environment is complex, risky and fast moving, but learners, whanau and teachers need technology that just works, so N4L's networks and services are solid, reliable, scalable and easy to use. This IT Systems Lead role will be based in N4L's modern offices located in Parnell.
The Role
This IT Systems Lead will have a fundamental role within the business. This is a technical leadership role, you will be responsible for systems design, implementation, maintenance and support. Experience with networking and firewall configurations is a must.
What will you be responsible for?
Lead a small team of engineers who looks after N4L office IT, 2 data centres and servers.
Responsible for the data centre infrastructure including hardware, networking, firewall, software infrastructure, Raspberry Pis.
Internal IT systems including all office applications, end-user devices, office LAN/WAN.
Making sure data backup and restoration is effective and in line with business requirements.
Engineering, implementing and monitoring security measures for the protection of computer systems, networks and information.
Manage the IT risk register and chair the monthly review.
Preparing and documenting standard operating procedures, policies and protocols.
Developing technical solutions and new security tools to help mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
Reporting on assessment-based findings, outcomes and propositions for further system enhancement.
Leading the systems and infrastructure function.
Evaluate the feasibility/relevance of proposed solutions, working in cross-functional or agile teams to develop and deliver significant aspects of the development program.
Develop existing and new applications by analyzing and identifying areas for modification and improvement. Develop new applications to meet customer requirements.
Work effectively with cross-functional teams to conceptualize products and services, leveraging data to drive original design ideas and decisions.
Skills required:
Proven leadership/people management experience
Experience working in google and opensource environment.

o Containers, Kubernetes
o ElasticSearch monitoring Heartbeat, auditbeat, filebeat
o Syslog, Logstash, Kafka

o Mongo DB, Ceph, mysql
o Raspberry Pi for 2500 schools with central management
