The Inpatient Unit covers a variety of medical and surgical specialties and you will be working rostered and rotating AM: 0645-1515, PM: 1430-2300, generally from Monday to Sunday.As a Health Care Assistant, you will be part of our dedicated nursing environment with full support.
Your role is to work within the team to assist nursing staff in care delivery, basic patient observations, some clinical tests and monitoring, and other tasks as directed by the Registered Nurse.About the Team/LocationWe practice in a collaborative patient partnership model of care to achieve best outcomes for our patients/families and whanau.The Wairau Hospital Inpatient Unit provides dedicated care to patients across Medical, Surgical, and AT&R specialties.
The team works closely together to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care in a compassionate and patient-centered manner.
As a dynamic and collaborative team, we offer a supportive environment where staff are encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge.

At the heart of everything we do is our strong team culture; we believe collaboration is key by fostering an environment of open communication, mutual respect, and shared goals, ensuring that every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute their best at work.About YouYou will have a mature outlook and the ability to get on with a wide variety of people.Good information technology (IT) skills (especially with MS Excel and Word) and excellent organisational and communication skills.You will also have the ability to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrating honesty and reliability, and will be adaptable to change, use appropriate initiative, and respond flexibly to service needs.Experience within the health sector is preferred, but is not essential as full training will be provided.NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, if not previously obtained, is to be commenced once orientations have been attended.QualificationsYear 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent).Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent).Working at Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
