Why this role matters
The Head of Finance plays a key role within the Consumer Leadership Team. This position is focused on overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the Consumer Business, ensuring strong financial control, compliance, and efficiency. The role takes ownership of core finance activities including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cost management. You will work closely with operational and commercial teams to provide accurate, timely financial insights that support sound business decisions and help identify opportunities for improvement and growth. You will also be instrumental in embedding a culture of accountability and performance, making a tangible impact on the business's continued success.
This is a newly created position so you will need to enjoy getting into the detail, managing the financial processes, and ensuring robust financial governance. This is a hands-on role and an opportunity to build an exceptional finance department.
What you'll do
* Partner with the Executive and Commercial Leadership Teams to shape and deliver the Consumer business's long-term strategic and financial direction.
* Develop and present business plans, securing Board endorsement for key initiatives and investments.
* Evaluate the financial viability of new opportunities including partnerships, acquisitions, and agency business.
* Actively drive all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and financial reporting.
* Ensure compliance with tax laws, statutory requirements, audit standards, and internal policies across New Zealand and Fiji.
* Manage banking, treasury, and funding activities, maintaining appropriate working capital levels.
* Drive efficiency through optimisation of financial systems and processes and lead the integration of financial technologies (including SAP).
* Support business transformation by developing and establishing fit-for-purpose financial processes across centralised functions.
* Build, lead, develop, and engage a high-performing finance team across regions, ensuring the structure and capability align with business needs.
* Foster a strong team culture aligned with Douglas' leadership expectations, through coaching, performance development, and effective communication.
* Build strong cross-functional relationships to enhance collaboration and business effectiveness.
What you'll bring
* Over 15 years' experience in senior finance leadership roles, ideally within the FMCG sector.
* Understanding of FMCG operations, sales channels, and regulatory compliance desirable.
* Proven track record in turning around P&Ls, driving profitability, and aligning financial strategy with business goals.
* Expertise in financial planning, budgeting, cost control, and capital management.
* Demonstrated success in leading high-performing, cross-regional teams and fostering a culture of accountability and development.
* Experience operating in international markets, particularly Australia and the broader APAC region will be highly advantageous.
* Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify and capitalise on growth opportunities.
* Exceptional stakeholder and supplier management skills, with a collaborative and influential communication style.
* Advanced problem-solving skills, a results-oriented mindset, and a passion for operational efficiency.
* Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline, with a commitment to ongoing professional and leadership development.
