Join us as our Head Chef, where you'll lead a dedicated catering team, promote health and safety standards, and deliver nutritious meals to our university student residents.Main Purpose of the Role:As the Head Chef, you will play a pivotal role in managing the team of kitchen staff while ensuring the seamless operation of catering services.
Under the guidance of the Executive Chef and Catering Manager, you will promote a culture of exceptional service, nutrition, and food safety, with a focus on the health and wellbeing of our residents.
Your leadership will be key in maintaining high standards and fostering a supportive and positive team environment.What You'll Be Doing:Leadership & People Management: Lead, motivate, and support a dedicated kitchen team, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and encouraging a culture of collaboration, growth, and excellence.Health & Safety: Oversee the food health and safety standards, including safe storage, preparation, and disposal of food.
Ensure all catering practices align with national regulations and UCSA policies.Quality Assurance: Monitor cleaning routines, equipment maintenance, and food handling processes to ensure compliance with health & safety standards.Customer Experience: Create a warm and friendly environment for our students, going above and beyond to deliver exceptional service, address concerns, and maintain a strong "We Care" attitude.Budget & Finance: Work with senior management to manage the budget, ensuring cost and stock control.What We're Looking For:Industry Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in the hospitality industry, with at least 2+ years of experience leading teams in a similar environment.Strong Leadership: Proven experience managing a diverse team, with an emphasis on communication, coaching, and team development.Food Safety & Health Knowledge: Deep understanding of food safety regulations, health & safety standards, and industry best practices.Exceptional Communication Skills: Ability to engage with residents, guests, and colleagues at all levels, maintaining professionalism and empathy at all times.Customer-Focused: A strong commitment to delivering outstanding service and maintaining positive relationships with students, suppliers and staff.Operational Expertise: Experience in overseeing daily operations and ensuring consistent quality across all aspects of the kitchen.About UCSANau Mai Ki Te Ropu Akonga o Te Whare Wananga o WaitahaWelcome to The University of Canterbury Students' Association (UCSA)Established in 1894, the UCSA is a registered not-for-profit organisation that supports UC students to succeed and belong.Our organisation is governed by an elected Student Executive, and we employ over 300 staff.
