The Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Chef who loves a challenge and thrives on hard work to oversee the kitchens at our site based at Melbourne Museum. Assisting the Executive Chef, you will be responsible for managing the event food offerings and providing support and direction to kitchen staff through leading by example and sharing your technical skills. This is a hands-on position which requires an individual who can multi-task in all aspects of our operations while maintaining an exemplary food and service delivery. You will need to be flexible in your approach to work and be flexible with your availability as this is not a Monday - Friday role.
Key Duties
Plan, supervise, monitor, and evaluate the food production
Plan and control menu based catering
Proven track record in successfully managing, motivating and developing a kitchen team
Deliver to our client's high expectation of a premium experience
Controlling stock, preparing budgets, operating within strict budgetary constraints, mentoring and training
Champion the significance and accurate implementation of allergy awareness controls
Maintaining a high standard of food hygiene, safety, infection control and cleanliness in accordance with Compass standards.
Supervision and training of kitchen staff including kitchen hands, cooks and chefs

The Person
Chef trade's qualification with a minimum of 4 years in a comparable venue environment including multi-venue catering
Drive, personality creative flair and a passion for food
Experience in leading, mentoring and developing teams
Experience catering for Large and small-scale events and retail
Exceptional communication skills
Must have experience in menu development and costing
Training and/or accreditation in OH&S and Food Hygiene
Availability to work nights and weekends on a full time basis according to business demands
