Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura, Guidance counsellorEnglish, Health and physical education, Learning languages, Mathematics and statistics, Science, Social sciences, Technology, Te reo Maori, The artsWe seek a qualified, dedicated guidance counsellor to join our supportive pastoral care team.About the role:As a guidance counsellor, you will play a pivotal role in supporting a large and diverse student body, from Y9 through Y13, as they navigate academic, personal, and mental health challenges.
You will provide both individual and group counselling services, working collaboratively with the pastoral team, whanau, deans, senior leadership, and the wider school community.
Your advocacy will focus on promoting student success and ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all students, with a strong emphasis on providing preventative services.We are looking for a passionate and empathetic individual who can build trusted relationships with students, demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, and remain calm under pressure.
A culturally informed approach, understanding and honouring the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, is essential in supporting our diverse community.Possible additional responsibility:There is the possibility of additional responsibility focusing on neurodiversity for the right candidate.Qualifications and skills:A recognised counselling qualification and membership with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC).Experience in a secondary school setting is preferred.NZ teacher registration (or equivalent) is desirable but not required.Additional information:This is a 0.8 equivalent position.Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.The terms and conditions, including base salary, for this position is set by the Secondary Teachers' Collective Agreement.
The base salary for trained and registered teachers will range from $64,083 to $103,086 depending on applicants' qualifications and experience.
