As the Governance Services Lead at Waitaki District Council, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality governance services, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and promoting best practices.
This pivotal role involves supporting elected officials, managing Council meetings, and providing expert advice on governance and risk management policies.
You will lead the development of governance strategies and processes, coordinate meeting schedules, and oversee training to ensure all stakeholders understand and adhere to governance requirements.
By fostering collaboration and innovation, you will ensure efficient and transparent decision-making processes that benefit the Waitaki community.

Qualifications: A diploma-level qualification or specific training relevant to governance and policy, along with a full NZ Driver's Licence.Governance Expertise: At least 5 years of experience providing governance and policy advice within a local government environment, with deep knowledge of democratic processes, legislation, and formal meeting procedures.Strategic Leadership: Proven ability to develop and implement governance policies, manage complex meeting schedules, and drive continuous improvement within the governance function.Communication and Collaboration: Exceptional skills in formal writing and communication, with the ability to build strong, trust-based relationships with stakeholders, including elected officials and the Senior Management Team.Problem-Solving and Compliance Focus: Strong understanding of local government policies and legislation, with the ability to provide expert advice on risk management and governance compliance.WDC is committed to continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration, striving to be a leading council that makes Waitaki a better place to live, work, and visit.
