GIS Centre of Excellence for terrestrial and marine spatial analysis

Undertake GIS analysis to support the delivery of the GIS Centre of Excellence business objectives across the Ministry for Primary Industries.

About the Role | Korero mo te turanga

In joining our focussed Spatial Intelligence team you will work with our internal customers across the business and provide geospatial imagery and data analysis to inform on a range of business delivery decisions. You will assist in developing spatial tools and providing sounds advice involving sustainable land use, forestry investments, biosecurity readiness and response, food safety and agriculture as well as championing GIS initiatives across the Ministry.

As a key member of the Spatial Intelligence team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to projects of national significance making a real difference to New Zealand.

Core responsibilities for the role:

Analysis of imagery and utilising general GIS skills to assist in the processing of forestry related applications.
Assist in the creation of technical solutions (e.g. scripting, automation) to aid in efficient data use and analysis methodologies.
Apply independent initiative, critical thinking and problem solving, and produce high quality reports, analysis and cartographics to support the Ministry.
Manage GIS data required to support intelligent spatial analysis for the Ministry.
Contribute toward quality assurances and continuous improvement of spatial processes.
Build and sustain positive relations with internal and external stakeholders.
About You Mou

Working with stakeholders and within the existing team to provide sound advice and analysis of land use requires a unique set of skills. Bring your communication skills and analytical thinking to help solve problems and add value to our service delivery.

To be successful in this role you will offer the ability to:

Use the ESRI suite of software, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcSDE, and ArcGIS Server.
Use associated software tools including Python, R and/or FME.
Complete assigned work to time and quality expectations.
Interpret aerial photography and multi-spectral satellite imagery.
Review, record and synthesise information from numerous sources to inform decision making.
Gather, organise, and communicate information.
Identify and communicate risks, issues, and options and potential solutions.
Carry out independent thinking and decision making using prescribed frameworks and rule sets.
