primary requirements

1. Must have the appropriate MD qualifications.
2. Must be able to receive the appropriate registration from the Medical Council of New Zealand.
3. Ideally, able to receive your Vocational Registration in New Zealand.
4. Must have at least five or more years General Practitioner or Family Medicine/Primary Care experience.
5.Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
6. Paediatric Advanced Life Support ideal, but not a must.
7. Prime trained in Emergency and Trauma Management.
8. Ideally, some experience working in an A&E (Emergency) and small hospital with some Secondary Inpatient Care Management.
9. A high standard of clinical care, management and time management skills.
10. Current Annual Practising Certificate as may be required.
11. Must be able to work in a culturally appropriate manner and have a working knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi.
12. Full, current and clean NZ drivers licence or a licence from a country recognised by Land Transport Authority.
13. Previous experience working in a multi disciplinary team desired.
14. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
15. Good computer skills.
16. Good problem solving skills.
17. Ability to prioritise activities.
18. Effective interpersonal skills.
19. Ability to work as part of a team.
20. Ability to manage stress.
21. Sense of humour.
22. Able and willing to commit at least two years to our client.
23. Able and willing to work a 1:3 roster with another doctor and a rural nurse which may go down to 1:2 when other doctor or nurse is on leave. Able and willing to carry the surgery cell phone and pager and respond to calls from the hospital and from the ambulance service.
primary duties

1. Provide for the safe, competent and professional management of patients’ conditions in accordance with their clinical priority.
2. Communicate clearly with patients about their conditions and treatment.
3. Provision for patient rights and all necessary consents acquired prior to treatment.
4. Maintain comprehensive and appropriate patient records within the normally accepted procedures and those of client’s and RNZCGP clinical protocols.
5. Provide oversight and care of patients on a rostered basis outside routine working hours during the week and at the weekend and on public holidays.
6. Respond to trauma and general medical emergencies as requested by Rural Nurse Specialists, Regional Control Centre, Christchurch and/or members of the public and/or emergency services. Endeavour to provide immediate and appropriate response to any life threatening situation.
7. Obtain assistance and advice from colleagues and specialist staff and appropriate centres.
8. Participate actively in process regulating performance and accountability which includes quality improvement measures.
9. Participate in clinical audit and peer/clinical review as agreed.
10. Ensure the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi are upheld.
11. Attend and participate in practice staff meetings with rural nurses which may include service planning, clinical teaching and assessment of practice.
12. Prepare necessary clinical reports and complete all ACC forms for ACC patients.
13. Provide professional advice as requested.
14. Attend and participate in CME and Peer Group activities with other General Practitioners.
15. Communicate, where appropriate, with relatives of patients on medical matters.
16. Participate, where appropriate, in multi disciplinary care planning and review.
17. Maintain age, sex disease register as per guidelines.
other duties

General Practitioners for this medical centre provide 24 hour care to the area and surrounding districts and provide medical services to the local hospital. Work Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 12 noon or 12:30 and then from 2:00 until 5:00pm or 5:30pm. Wednesday afternoon only worked when on call, which is usually one week in three. Appointments are booked at 15 minute intervals. Weekend surgery is held at 4pm on Saturday and Sunday and public holidays and usually last anywhere between 45 minutes and 2 hours. The rostered on call doctor covers this surgery. The on call doctor visits the local hospital each morning to liaise with the registered nurses regarding patient care.
Paid annual leave, paid public holidays, on-call allowance plus some relocation assistance may be available.
