Our service
Student Health provides primary health care services for students at the University of Otago and is staffed by 62 full and part-time employees working as a multi-disciplinary team. We undertake over 50,000 medical, nursing and mental health consultations per year. Student Health is a RNZCGP ‘Cornerstone’ practice
The role
As a General Practitioner, you will work as part of a large multidisciplinary primary health care team in providing primary medical care to the highest possible standard to all eligible students, in a professional, culturally safe, supportive, understanding and caring manner, at all times. The focus of this practice is on young adult health care, but patients may be aged between 17 and 80 years old.
Your skills and experience
• Registered with Medical Council of New Zealand with a valid, appropriate Annual Practicing Certificate and Indemnity Insurance.
• Skilled and knowledgeable in core General Practice areas.
• Interest in care delivery for young adult population.
• Collaborative, with the ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with colleagues.
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Effective communicator with the ability to write clear, user-friendly documentation for health purposes.
• Competent in using technical health software, ability to easily grasp new processes and technologies.
• Commitment and ability to work in a multi - disciplinary team.
Ideally you will have a genuine interest in student/young adult health with demonstrated commitment and understanding of developmental influences on young adults, and be able to provide high quality, comprehensive primary care to this group.
A focused, flexible, positive, team approach to work is essential. Student Health Services embraces a shared-care, multidisciplinary approach amongst its clinicians.

This is a permanent 0.8FTE (30hrs per week) position. Hours of work will be variable between 8.30am and 8.30pm, with participation in the new extended hours portion of our hours of operation and rostered after hours shifts at DUDAC.
