Head Medical have opportunities suited to Post Foundation Doctors possessing 6-12 months experience in Older Person's Health. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team working in partnership with other health, social and community sectors based in subtropical Whangarei. Due to the geography of the region, the hospital also provides services to a large rural region. The Department of Health of Older People provides a range of services including acute care of the elderly, stroke rehabilitation, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatients, and community services. The Department is supported by an excellent multidisciplinary team with a focus on patient centred care. This role will have a focus on inpatient rehabilitation as well as orthogeriatrics, and perioperative geriatrics. You will also participate in the acute medicine on-call roster work with opportunity to expand experience in other specialties such as Acute Medicine, Cardiology, Nephrology, Oncology, Respiratory and Gastroenterology. There is an active clinical training programme with didactic sessions, interactive based teaching, journal club and video conferencing. The Location Whangarei is called the "Meeting place of the Pacific" because of its many international yachting visitors and the Northland region boasts some of the most scenic and exciting coastal areas of NZ in a subtropical climate. Its rich in Maori and European history, some of the oldest traces of Maori settlement can be found here and newcomers will experience a real connection with the culture and way of life.
