Utilise your passion and experience as a registered nurse or genetic counsellor and further develop your skills & experience!You will be a part of the NZ Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Service (NZFGCS), a national service specialising in the diagnosis and management of familial gastrointestinal cancer syndromes, with emphasis on reducing morbidity and mortality in families who are assessed to be at high risk.As a Family Health Assessor, you will join a multidisciplinary team consists of family history assessors, gastroenterologists, and colorectal surgeons and works closely with Genetic Health Services. You will be providing education, information and support to families, including medical management and identification of those at high risk and follow up for others within a family who may be at increased risk of cancer as well as long term follow-up of individuals via a colonoscopy surveillance programme.In this role, you will:Explore the medical histories of referred patients and families to determine their risk of hereditary syndromes associated with gastrointestinal cancerProvide on-going surveillance and risk management adviceRecommend appropriate careCoordinate the endoscopy surveillance for those individuals participating in our colonoscopy reminder programmeDemonstrate an awareness of the ethical issues related to the medical management of genetic disorders and the psycho-social impact on people of a diagnosis of cancer or a high risk of developing cancerTo be successful in this role, you will have at least 5 years post graduate experience in cancer genetic counselling or practice and a health related degree such as a Masters in Genetic Counselling or a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) with preferred experience in the field of gastroenterology, oncology, colorectal surgery or working with familial cancer syndromes. If you have led your own clinics, this will be an advantage but full clinical training and support is provided.The service is committed to the maintenance of professional accreditation for candidates from a Genetic Counselling background.Click here to view the position description.Don't delay!
