NorthTec is seeking expressions of interest for a fixed term full-time (37.5 hours per week) Tutor to teach on our Occupational Health and Safety Programmes. Relevant industry and tutoring experience is highly desirable. This position is based at correction facilities within the Auckland region. The Tutor may also be required to support the Probation Service programmes which NorthTec also provide in the Auckland region.
Critical to this role is the ability to connect with our students and to be able to offer understanding and awareness of different life journeys. Understanding the process and difficulties of making life changes is essential. This programme is designed to assist our students with key health and safety work ready skills. Experience in working with learners within corrections facilities, or with learners who have recently exited from corrections facilities, or demonstrated capability to work with this learner group is essential.
Due to the nature of this role, you will need to be able to satisfy both the Department of Corrections and NorthTec's stringent police vetting processes.
Skills and Experience
An Occupational Health and Safety qualification
Generic Occupational Health and Safety experience
An adult teaching qualification is preferable or the commitment to undertake this
Experience of teaching or training adults
Outgoing personality and willing to engage with industry
A can do, proactive attitude
Communicate effectively with people at all levels
Take pride in developing good customer relationships
Have good computer skills
A clean full Driver Licence
Willingness to greet and acknowledge people in Te Reo Maori and pronounces Maori words correctly
Minimum knowledge of ahuatanga Maori, actively supports cultural activities (e.g. formal/informal welcomes, caring for visitors, ceremonies)

Height Safety and Fall Arrest
Introduction to Health and Safety
Confined Space Entry
Permit issuing and receiving
First Aid 2 day comprehensive
Mobile Elevated Work Platform
