About the team
The Intellectual Disability Service (IDS) is part of the Specialist Mental Health Services based at Wakari Hospital, high above Dunedin with stunning views of the city and ocean. The IDS comprises of three parts, Ward 10a - a 12 bed inpatient service, Helensburgh Cottage - a four bed inpatient rehabilitation unit and the Community Liaison team. You will work alongside the multidisciplinary team comprising of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Mental Health Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and Psychiatrists.
Ward 10a is a medium secure 12 bed inpatient service for Intellectually Disabled clients, aged 17 to 65 years, whom require assessment and treatment under the Mental Health Act or are subject to the criminal justice system via the Intellectual Disability Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation Act 2003.
About you/about the role
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Enrolled Nurse - preferably with Mental Health or Intellectual Disability nursing experience to join our supportive multidisciplinary team. You will have a range of skills and the ability to work effectively with a large team to a high standard within your scope of practice. To be successful in this role you must be positive with great communication skills, and you will have a passion for supporting people with an intellectual disability from admission to discharge.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical skills, working alongside patients in a complex environment to meet their identified needs in a multi-disciplinary setting. The emphasis is on the delivery of safe client focused care in an ever changing dynamic setting, working closely with the Associate Charge Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Registered Nurses within our service.
You must also be registered as an Enrolled Nurse with NCNZ (Enrolled Nurse Scope of Practice, NCNZ, 2010) and have a current Practicing Certificate.
