Founded in 1886, the Waikato District Health Board (DHB) is one of the largest DHBs in New Zealand. District health boards are responsible for providing or funding the provision of health services in their district.
We plan, fund and provide health and disability support services to a population of more than 420,000. We are the Midland regional referral centre for multiple specialties including trauma surgery, oncology and neurology.
Waikato Hospital is one of New Zealand's largest tertiary, teaching hospitals with approximately 900 inpatient beds and 27 operating theatres.
About the role:
We are looking for a communications professional with a proven track record who can bring fresh leadership and expertise to promote Waikato District Health Board's strategies. You will be at the height of your career and able to develop, protect and enhance our reputation and brand.
In this role you will be accountable for providing strategic communications advice to the organisation. You will take ownership for the accountabilities of a director; and member of the chief executive's direct reports. You will thrive on leading, mentoring and managing a team of passionate and committed media and communication's experts.

Key responsibilities of the role:
Managing the relationship with local and national media
Enabling good internal communications
Ensuring that key staff have good capability to act as spokespersons for the DHB
Building and maintaining the reputation of the DHB
Supporting good stakeholder management through excellent communication
Leading and managing the Waikato DHB's Media and Communication team.

Required skills and experience:
You will hold an appropriate professional qualification or experience in public relations and marketing.
Excellent experience in public relations, communications and marketing that is relevant to a large complex organisation.
Be an exceptional manager of communications and collaborator with a track record of successfully interfacing with executives and key stakeholders.
