Director Of Communications

The senior doctors’ union is looking for a new Director of Communications.

The Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS) represents the professional and industrial interests of salaried senior doctors and dentists throughout New Zealand. Most of our members are employed by district health boards as medical or dental specialists.

You will lead a small high-performing communications team in the ASMS national office in Wellington across the full suite of communications activity, including media, strategy, publications, writing, editing, advice, web and social media, stakeholder engagement, accountability documents, events and collateral. This position reports to the Executive Director.

You’ll need excellent judgement, a proven track record, the ability to gather information quickly and offer sensible advice. You will need to be hard-working, well-organised and enjoy working with people. Knowledge of the health sector is desirable but not essential.

You will need empathy with senior doctors and dentists, who make up our membership, and with the union movement. You will be required to travel regularly throughout New Zealand.
