About the Role:
My client is a goverment organisation that works to provide real value to New Zealand through environmental information databases, scientific models, analysis, web services, web delivery systems and portals. As part of their strategy to continuously maintain and improve their digital systems, they are seeking an intermediate/senior DevOps Engineer to join their team and further improve their DevOps environment and processes.
As a DevOps Engineer you will be an integral part of the Systems Development team and contribute to all projects. You will work with system analysts, software developers and project managers to create and execute test plans to ensure deliverables are met. You will work with and extend the existing tool chain for continuous integration and delpoyment. The role includes the design, development and maintenance of a Continuous Integration tool chain that provides build, unit and functional test, deployment and performance monitoring tools. It also includes the installation, configuration and maintenance of third-party software systems that are key to the overall systems infrastructure.
Responsibilties:
Manage application life cycle from installation, update, delpoyment through to test, acceptance and production systems
Create, maintain and manage automated test plans, procedures, programs and tools
Work with IT to establish OS/Platform configurations for development, local and cloud deployments
Assis with white box testing, root cause analysis
Manage product defect tracking
Innovate to reduce test script creation and maintenance, make QA processes simpler and more efficient
Identify and implement tool chains and frameworks to streamline the software development life cycle with particular reference to test and deployment
Design and implement secure and stable cloud-based environment for deploying custom-built software
Be a subject matter expert for Platform-as-a-Service and Infrastructure-as-Code to evangelise the latest technologies available
About You:
To be successful in this role, you will have the following:
5+ years as a Systems Engineer working with online systems and services
Experience with automated test, build and deployment tools
Experience with Linux, Shell Scripting
Experience with automated UI testing in a Web Environment - critical
Specific experience with Linux, Tomcat, JBoss, PostgreSQL, Oracle, etc would be advantageous
Experience in managing full stack web apps in a commercial production environment
Experience with cloud hosting of web services and the automation of them
Experience managing containers in Kubernetes, developer laptops and cloud hosted
Familiar with code analysis tools such as SonarQube
Familiar with unit and functional testing
Exposure to Web Services, REST, SOAP
Able to build, configure and maintain production and test Linux servers both on prem and in the cloud
Excellent communication skills
Strong soft skills (empathy, able to resolve conflict, provide constructive feedback in an approriate way, team player)
