We are currently seeking a Dunedin-based Development Scientist to enhance our capabilities in product development and scientific research.Role Overview:The Development Scientist is a key member of our team, responsible for driving innovation and developing new products within the Oritain framework.
You will oversee products from customer need to concept, development, and production implementation.
Collaboration across departments is essential to meet business objectives.
This full-time role is based at our Central Dunedin site, with occasional travel expected.Key Responsibilities:Gather and understand stakeholder requirements, defining objectives in technical terms.Assist in designing and planning technical solutions, including product testing and validation.Execute scientific and technical activities according to scoped plans and stakeholder expectations.Specify desired outcomes for technical products, establishing clear criteria, timelines, and budgets.Communicate progress and deliver commitments to stakeholders within agreed timeframes.Collaborate with teams such as analytical development, measurement, statistical analysis, sample collection, data management, and software development.Analyze and interpret data to improve technology accuracy and efficiency.Support commercialisation efforts through cross-functional collaboration.Ensure smooth product integration within the Delivery Team, promoting team autonomy.Participate in ongoing product maintenance and improvements, including gap analysis and validation testing.Develop and update scientific protocols and documentation.Contribute to scientific reports, presentations, and publications.Hold an advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in a relevant scientific field, preferably chemistry or biochemistry.Have at least 1 year of experience in a commercial scientific environment, with confidence in applying scientific concepts.Proficient in business tools like Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence) and Microsoft Office applications.Familiarity with R statistical programming is highly advantageous.Understand statistical modeling and data analysis techniques.Demonstrate critical thinking, creativity, and innovation in problem-solving.Investigate processes and data critically and objectively.Pay meticulous attention to detail and maintain objectivity.Capable of working independently and as part of a team.Adapt easily to manage multiple time-sensitive projects with resilience.Exemplary verbal and written English communication skills, fostering collaboration.Benefits include:35 days holiday including statutory holidays.Health Cashback Plan.Life Insurance.Your birthday off.Enhanced paternity/maternity leave.2 days paid volunteering leave.Employee Assistance Programme.Applications are reviewed as received.
