The Team: What we do
The Hospital Dental Service, located within Christchurch Outpatients, provides specialist dental care across dental services including Special Care Dentistry, Paedodontics, Prosthodontics, Orthodontics and Oral Medicine.
Dental Assistants provide support for a large team of clinicians, including dental specialists, dental officers, house officers and clinical dental technicians. We provide quality services that are integral to ensuring the health and wellbeing of our community. We're looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Dental Assistant to join our team on a fixed-term basis covering parental leave until approximately September 2021! This opportunity will see you working 0.9FTE/36hr per week across Monday to Friday. You'll assist in the provision of general dental care for adults and children, some of whom have complex medical conditions or special needs. This may include assisting with patients who are receiving dental care under general anaesthetic and/or IV sedation. Previous experience as a Dental Assistant is essential, and NZDA certificate is highly desirable.
This opportunity will require you to work across a number of specialty areas, so flexibility and enthusiasm to work in different environments is essential to your success.
The Role: Where you fit in
In this role, you will be responsible for the following:
Proving chairside assistance to the Dentist or other clinical staff
Managing administrative tasks and scheduling of appointments
Checking, preparing and monitoring of all clinical equipment/materials
Participating in rostered duties for dental assistants
Your skills will include the following:
NZDA Certificate in Dental Surgery Assisting (or equivalent) is advantageous but not essential
Previous experience in a similar role, as well as understanding of dental/oral procedures and terminology is essential to be considered for this opportunity
Hospital experience is advantageous, but we would also like to hear from those who have a strong background in general dental treatment
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a team as well as develop valued relationships with our varied consumer base
