Cyber Security Engineer

The Electoral Commission is expanding our capability and is seeking an astute and passionate Cyber Security Engineer to join a dedicated, supportive team to help safeguard and modernise New Zealand's electoral processesThe primary responsibility of the Cyber Security Engineer is to ensure the protection, resilience, and continuous improvement of the organisation's information systems by implementing and maintaining robust security measures.
This role is key in delivering the organisation's security objectives, with a focus on preventing, detecting, and responding to security threats.Key responsibilities include proactive security management, response planning, and the administration of security features across IT systems, ensuring vulnerabilities are mitigated and incidents are effectively handledThis will be a varied and rewarding role, where you will see your efforts directly contributing to providing an effective and impartial electoral system that New Zealanders understand and trust.The salary range for this position is $103,982 - $115,536 reflecting the skills and experience of the successful candidate.Mohou ake | About youYou will have a strong technical background, an interest in problem solving, a passion for cyber-security, an affinity for challenges, and a drive for on-going professional development.You know what's important and how to keep it safe.

You are passionate about our purpose; you are willing to challenge the status quo but know that pragmatism is sometimes needed to meet key deadlines.We are seeking candidates who:Have proven experience in implementing and managing cybersecurity measures within a complex IT environment.Can Demonstrate expertise in incident response and recovery, with a track record of managing security incidents.Have knowledge of information management practices and legislation, including the Public Records Act 2005 and Privacy Act 2020 is desirable.Are experienced in the development of organisational policies and procedures.Have in-depth knowledge of security administration practices, including configuring security settings and managing security technologies.Have an ability to work effectively under pressure, managing multiple priorities and complex security challenges.Have a proactive and detail-oriented approach to maintaining and improving the organisation's security posture.Have strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work well with cross-functional teamsCan conduct cyber security and compliance-based risk assessmentsCan undertake cyber-awareness campaigns including phishing simulation activitiesSummary of Key responsibilitiesCreate and support the management of cyber security artefacts and tools, including policy, processes and procedures informed by the Protective Security Requirements framework (including NZISM)Support security risk assessments and business impact analysis for the Commission's technology systemsMonitor and manage the effectiveness of the Commission's operational security practices.Provide advice on access controls and rights, ensuring appropriate controls are in place for privileged accessContribute to infrastructure design, changes and planning, providing cybersecurity expertise for the correct application of security procedures and controls.Implement agreed security changes and maintenance activitiesUse infrastructure security management and SIEM tools to gather security statistics, and automate provisioning, testing, and deployment where necessary of security interventionsTe Kaitiaki Take Kowhiri | About the Electoral CommissionThe Electoral Commission wants every New Zealander to trust, value and take part in parliamentary elections.Here is your chance to contribute to New Zealand's democracy as part of a small team of electoral experts who design, build, and implement processes and systems for Parliamentary elections and referenda.
