ABOUT THE ROLE
The Women, Child and Youth Services team at Hauora Tairawhiti is seeking a Senior Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join three other specialists in a seaside New Zealand community. The applicant should be able to demonstrate clinical expertise, academic abilities and professional qualities as outlined in the "RANZCOG Curriculum. A framework to guide the training and practice of specialist obstetricians and gynaecologists."
Obstetrics:
There are approximately 700 births per year at Hauora Tairawhiti with most deliveries being performed by Midwives. Obstetricians act as consultants on the maternity ward and run the antenatal clinic for high-risk women. It is expected the applicant will demonstrate clinical expertise in the management of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care of obstetric patients with moderate levels of complexity including medical complications, abnormal labours, operative deliveries, twin vaginal births, vaginal birth after caesarean and preferably breech vaginal birth.
Gynaecology:
Gynaecology services are located within the Hospitals Women's Health Clinic, which services the Tairawhiti region. Appointments at the colposcopy and gynaecology clinics are normally arranged by a GP or via Hospital Referral. Operating room sessions are scheduled for gynaecologic surgery as indicated. Applicants would be expected to perform but not be limited to the following procedures/exams:
Pelvic exam
Endometrial biopsy
Colposcopy
LLETZ procedure
Hysteroscopy
Laparoscopy
Hysterectomy
Pelvic organ prolapse repair
The on-call commitment is one 24-hour call per week, one weekend per month, covering Maternity, Emergency Department gynaecology patients if requested, and gynaecology inpatients. If a member of the team is on vacation their colleagues cover in their absence.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Registered or eligible for vocational registration or Special Purpose - Locum Tenens Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Fellowship of the RANZCOG is desirable
Broad clinical experience
The ability to make informed decisions in a high risk and rural environment
The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Demonstrated ability to assess acute clinical situations and act decisively
Have a current driver's license valid in New Zealand
